Adam Adkison

Digging through drawers of crayons and oil pastels, inhaling the smell of paraffin wax and pigment, this is the first strong memory of art for me.  It was the art classroom in the basement of my elementary school with large, dark brown cabinets and small windows set high up. It was also a magical place where I had the freedom to create. Throughout high school I’d see amazing drawings and paintings. Our town had an art museum not far from my house and I could see remarkable work there, including a Norman Rockwell painting. I’d wander through there, looking at the large binders of sketches and paintings and wonder how it was done.
