Painting at the Cape Ann Plein Air event in 2019

Working from life gives energy and immediacy to art. The sun moving across the sky, the smell of autumn leaves, running water, dogs and kids playing, all these elements add to the work.  I work from life as much as possible, the ability to incorporate the energy of my surroundings into art is energizing and fun.  When looking at my work it’s my hope that these traces of life shine through the paint.  

I’ve been so influenced by the art, music, and writing of others that my main hope is for others to be inspired and carry this excitement into creative projects of their own, into their own life.  To be part of this flow of creativity is one of the most humbling experiences of my life and I am ever grateful.

Got this one pretty close to done. I've been developing a new process where I paint the first half using a photo reference then that gets put away and I let my memory and imagination take over. I let the painting tell me where it needs to go. I used
